Hi there, I’m Sam 👋
I’m Sam, a Product Designer based in Vancouver, Canada. My journey to finding UX was quite serendipitous. Since graduating with a business degree in 2014 I have worn many different hats (even experimenting with a visor at one point), working in a variety of industries and roles in search of the perfect fit. I knew I craved a creative outlet, which led me to graphic design. But I felt there was a gap when it came to research-informed decision making and strategic planning, so I transitioned back into marketing. Surely there was a way to have it all? Then one day in 2018 I took a course on “user experience design”, and it was like all the skills I had accumulated over the years and all the areas of past roles that I felt most aligned with were consolidated into this one industry. Sunday scaries were officially a thing of the past!
Since then, I have worked both as an in-house designer and as an agency consultant. I’ve designed software and websites for clients with diverse use cases, from job board management to mortgage lending, content marketing to social messaging apps, and many other industries in between.
No matter the topic, my specialty is digging deep to uncover all the details that can set a product apart and balancing these with the big picture goals that are most important to the success of a project, and ultimately the target user. I thrive managing a team with varying skills, ensuring each person is simultaneously contributing, engaged, and growing in their craft.
As a relatively new west coast resident, I migrated from Toronto in pursuit of mountains, forests and adventure. Rain or shine you might find me climbing, hiking, skiing, cycling, or camping. And for the days where the rain is too much to handle, indoor games or craft nights work just as well.
